A Wedding, Two Dogs and a Full Circle Moment
Dog weddings aren’t something you see every day. But on National Dog Day 2025, I had the honor of photographing Willow and Kevin — two lovable Labradors — as they “tied the knot” at a local rest home. From flower collars and bow ties to a dog-friendly “wedding cake,” the day was filled with laughter, wagging tails, and even the sweetest little flower girl.
On the surface, it was playful and lighthearted. But for me, this particular wedding carried a weight that went far beyond the photos.
This rest home is where my father spent his final days. It’s where I held his hand and said my final “goodbye”. Walking back through those doors with my camera in hand — for the first time since saying goodbye — I felt a flood of emotions. Grief. Gratitude. Sadness. Joy.
And then I saw the smiles. I saw the residents clapping, laughing, and delighting in the joy these dogs brought. I saw the staff working tirelessly to create moments of happiness. And I realized something: this place isn’t only where I lost my dad — it’s also a place where life, love, and community continue to grow every single day.
Being able to volunteer my time and talents here felt like a full-circle moment. Almost as if my dad was whispering to me: Keep showing up. Keep giving. Keep capturing love wherever it shines.
I left with my heart full, grateful not only to have witnessed Willow and Kevin’s big day, but to have been reminded that healing often finds us in the most unexpected places.
So here’s to love in all its forms — the kind between people, between pets, and the invisible thread that ties our past to our present.
